Sugar Names

Most sugars are comprised of one or a combination of simple sugars and can be found both naturally in fruits and dairy or are commercially produced and added into the manufacturing of food products.

Simple sugars, which are comprised of one or two sugar molecules, are quickly absorbed by the body. Complex sugars contain more than two sugar molecules, requiring a little more to breakdown and convert.

Most common and widely used simple sugars are glucose, fructose, and sucrose. These often appear in products on their own or are combined to create a modified version, as in High Fructose Corn Syrup (fructose and glucose).
